About the artist

Art is the action. The vision is you.

I'm Taylor Marie, the artist behind Carma Visions. I paint wildlife, color and light in oil, and every piece starts with the same intention: to put something good into the world.

The name

Where the name came from

Carma Visions started as a late-night conversation with my husband, Matthew, tossing names back and forth.

At the time I was in a dark place. I didn't want to be seen. I was afraid my past would follow me, and putting my own name on the internet felt impossible. So Carma, with a C, began as a persona: a way to make art without having to stand in front of it.

In 2019 I made it official and opened the studio. Life still had other plans for a while. I worked full time in the art world, and I spent years painting an entire collection for an island resort in Belize while we were building it. Through all of it, Carma Visions kept growing into something truer than a hiding place. It became the philosophy I live by.

The philosophy

“There were times when I was convinced the universe revolved around me. But I am a speck, of a speck, of a speck, clinging to a rock hurtling through vast cosmic darkness.”

My intentions used to be rooted in “me, myself, and I.” I'm not religious, but I've learned a lot from Buddhist teachings, and one idea changed how I live: everything is everything, and everything is nothing.

Zoom out

Nothing is quite as serious as it feels.

From far enough away, what seemed threatening shrinks. I'm humbled, and strangely, comforted.

Zoom in

The people I love become the center of the universe.

A conversation, a quiet morning, a single brushstroke suddenly matters more than anything.

I live between those two views. I am not the center of the universe. But the things I love and care for are, and that is what gives my life meaning.

Karma

What karma really means

In the West we usually talk about karma as the thing that comes back around to bite you. The way I've come to understand it, karma is the action itself: the willful act, and the intention behind it, that sets everything in motion.

At Carma Visions, we believe intention orchestrates infinite possibilities.

I know what it's like to act from pain and anger at the world. I've spent ten years healing from that, wanting to become a better person and live up to my potential, and art was how I did it. Now I try to be deliberate about everything I put out: how I speak to people, how I treat them, what I make.

Painting beauty into the world is the good karma I choose to set in motion.

The name, in one line

Art is the action. The vision is you.

Every painting carries my story: the place, the animal, the reason I painted it. But the more time I spend with collectors, the clearer it becomes that the painting isn't about me. It's about what it does for you.

Art has a life force. It can humble a hard heart, lift someone who is hurting to their feet, and bring a quiet room to life. What a piece means in your home, and what you need from it, is the part I can't paint. That part is yours.

That's the duality behind the name.

The mission

A Warrior of Light

To turn hardships into hope, fear into courageous curiosity, and pain and suffering into love and compassion, through works of art that speak to the collective soul.

For me, it also means being a light on the next traveler's horizon. If you are healing after a dark season, chasing something bigger than you feel ready for, or standing at the edge of a leap, I hope my work, and the way I've built it, gives you permission to take a chance on yourself.

The practice

In every brushstroke

I'm conscious of what I'm thinking and feeling when I paint, because every brushstroke is a physical record of where I am and who I am. So I try to put love, light, hope and beauty into each one, and send it out into the world.
